I'm rebuilding the c4 transmission in my 68 mustang and have three questions:
1) My endplay is slightly out of tolerance - .046 vs .042 max - so I need a new #2 thrust washer and/or shim. According to my shop manual, Ford used to make a .090 thrust washer (the one now installed is .076) Any ideas on where to get one? I've surfed the web for hours and can't find one. Nor can I find a shim. Any ideas/sources?
2) The front pump bushing is installed backwards (I think). The notch and groove are supposed to face the pump gears; i.e., towards the "inside" of the pump, right?
3) Any shadetree techniques for installing a new bushing without buying an expensive bushing removal/install kit? I believe the bushing OD is 2 1/16". Maybe just take it down to the local transmissoin shop is my best bet.
