Hello all,

I have a 1974 model C4 transmission that I'm trying to put into my 68 mustang. I have a few pictures for you. Can anyone tell me what exactly needs to be swapped out for this to work. I am doing the v6 to v8 conversion, putting in a 302. Thanks!

one thing for sure, is that the kickdown lever used in that 73 will need to be replaced with a short cable for the 68. There should be a lever that sticks down from the accelerator linkage on the 68 that it will attach to.

other than that, bolt up new cooler lines, hook the vacuum line into the manifold, and it should bolt and go!

good luck!

yeah whats bothering me is the kickdown lever, on mine it is attached to a rod, I know that it need a cable that attaches to the throttle linkage, but isn't the kickdown lever supposed to be pointing up instead of down in my picture? Is that a simple fix like unbolting the one i have on there now and putting the right one on?

I really have no idea what car this came out of, I just know the casting number says D4 which means '74, somebody said that " It is set up for a floor shifter but also has the lever for column shifter." Meaning that mine has the levers for both floor and column shifter but the shifter rod is currently set up for floor shifter.

I used my 67 6 cyl shift lever and kick down with my 85 C5 with a 72 C4 valvebody. They interchange, but the kickdown lever from a pre 70 has to be trimmed to fit a 70 and up. The valvebody has to come out to change them. The diameter of the kickdown rods are different so they have to be swapped as a pair.
