I had to work for a while at the dealership yesterday but took my car with me for when I got done everything else.

I did set a personal best record (yes everything is a race to me) 26 minutes after I set the lift to raise the vehicle I had the flywheel unbolted and the trans in the back of my truck and ready to start the swap.

For review I'm switching from the T5 with spec stage 3 clutch disc, stock new pressure plate and new flywheel. For anybody considering using this combo as a daily driver, I made only about 35 passes and already the flywheel is grooved from the harshness of the clutch.

Now I'm going back to the full manual reverse shift pattern with a trans brake that I had with the V8. I'll be using a stock pinto torque converter with a 9.something" bolt circle also known as an F29. I picked a cool cheetah reverse pattern shifter for really cheap from WFC and I may use an aluminum driveshaft this time too when I put it back together.

As stupid as this sounds I drove 2.5 hours each way through the night to carlise to meet the entire turboford crew. Seemed to be a long drive for some bellhousing alignment pins, 2 slices of pizza, and a sprite. But I can say I caught about 11 minutes of the turboford party. (pretty much the cleanup stages)

What no pictures? (j/k)

Is that set up for manual shift? What rpm stall converter are you using? What diameter?

How are you shifting without vacuum?

I heard there was a kit out that operated by cable but not sure of the details.

Im impressed at how fast you get things together. Wish my projects moved that fast.

tealtiger: I'm not sure if I'll drop anything off the 1/4 due to the little extra loss through torque coverter slip. I'm just hoping to not slow down at this point.

anlushac: I left the house cusing because I left the camera had home both times. It is a full manual so its got gear 1, 2, 3, but no drive and no automatic functions at all. In a conversation between stinger and joe morgan about my car, I should see about 3000stall with the brake and it "could" flash as high as 5000 on nitrous. Which means leaving line already at 20psi, 5k rpms, and a 100shot. I'm not sure of the size of the converter I thinks its about 10.5" or close.

No vacuum.....Where the modulator valve was is now the transbrake solenoid. There is also no kickdown linkage instead the trans is always operating at whatever pressure the pump is capable of making. So it has a "rather firm" shift if putting around but a dead on hit wide open.

As for the progession of the project...I have no idea how it works that way. Since I've done it before I know all the special nuts and bolts and needed tools.
I stuck the C4 in and did everything but the cooler lines. I couldn't figure out how to rebend the V8 lines I made. I also have to mount and do the adjustments on the shifter.

When you are used to working flat rate, haulin' arse at almost any cost is the mentality. I'm starting out as a VW tech.. not on flat rate to begin with, but I have been before.. it's crazy.

Good luck with your project. Haven't driven my Stang very much yet with the C4 much, but so far, man it shifts hard! I rebuilt the tranny and installed B&M performance clutches and bands, and modified the valve body to B&M competition specs. When lightly accelerating, I can't hardly tell at all when it shifts.. awesome! I can't wait to get fully spooled up and have it hit hard!

Dunno.. just finished building it in the middle of March. I've been in PA at the VW Academy, but that's over this Friday. I don't een have it tuned well enough to hit hardly any boost. When I get over 75 KPa on the MAP, it starts cutting out really hard. I have several things to check, but haven't had a chance to check them out yet. Maybe next week when I get back to NC. I can't wait to get it rolling and go whoop some camaros and rice

Doh! I normally come down 81 to 77 and I remember passing the signs for Luray.. but wouldn't you know, this time I am going 95 to 85 to Richmond to meet a budy for the super Chevy show on my way back home. That sucks, I'd love to come hang out for a bit. Maybe sometime fairly soon we can work something out. I'm still not sure where I'm going to end up working.. maybe Greenville, SC, but there's still a lot that can happen. Gotta find a VW dealer that's hiring in order to uphold my end of the contract.

Brantley:How about this. I'll be going to Fun Ford weekend in Richmond 23,24,25 of June. Should be fun.

I used the same drive line and left at 4.5k off the transbrake and on a 125 shot with the V8 and pulled 1.50 60ft times.

I also forgot to update.
I'm done with the trans swap and have driven around. The pinto converter stalls about 2900 and the engine is starting to miss at that point so I'm losing some torque. As I fix the miss I would suspect it to stall a little more.

Very cool. Are you using a stand alone tranny fluid cooler or a remote oil filter?

I use an external trans cooler and dont' use any kind of oil cooler. I even did away with the factory oil cooler(warmer) that turbo motors had stock.
