i'm changing from an original i6 c4 to a v8 aod. my car is a 66 coupe. i know my motor is from a 85-86 full size ford and the transmission i'm thinking about buying is from a mid 80-90 full size ford. are there any issues other from driveshaft length that i will face in doing this conversion? what shifter can be used and what works well?

You can use your stock shifter if you like, but you'd need to buy a kit that allows you to do so. With that, you'd also have to get a kit for the kick down which would involve removing the tranny pan and flipping the tranny linkage 180*.

CJ Pony sells the complete kit which includes the transmission mount, slip yoke, kickdown linkage and shifter linkage.

All in all, it's pretty simple.
