I keep re-examining this idea with myself, basically because this summer I will have my rearend out, and probably my engine too... making it seemingly the best time to throw a toploader into my 66. I was originally just going to rebuild the C4 for the time being (we have a rebuild kit for it sitting around), but I really do want a 4 speed, and it more or less seems like a good time to do it.
A few questions:
Would a 289/302 or 351c bellhousing work with the 351w? How long does it need to be(assuming there are various lengths of toploaders and that this length is different than my c4)? Would my driveshaft be reusable? What spline input/output should I get (or does that matter)? Is close ratio much better than wide ratio for the street?
I won't ask what I'd need because I know thats covered in other threads.
