Since I am now looking at a rebuild of my 66 C4 transmission, I need to know what are the best places to get parts from for just that.

It would be great if someone sells a complete rebuild kit, with everything one would need... clutches, bands, seals, thrust bearings etc...

Also, since I'm replacing the clutch plates and bands anyway, are there better versions out there worth investing in? I know there are different high performance bands and such, but are they worth it, and what do they do?

I am planning on squeezing quite a bit more power out of the (289) engine in the future, but by then I should be looking at a race/street prepped, professionally built transmission anyway. I might even convert to manual. So for the time being, I just want this transmission to work well and last.

I don't know of any inherent shortcomings or problems with the C4 transmission, that could be addressed or improved with non-stock parts. I'm a newbie.

since you are in fla, i would suggest murphy's automotive in florance, al... good people to deal with, and if you need anything thats not part of a rebuild kit (drums, hubs, etc) they have a used parts warehouse so you arent waiting for parts. unless you are going for a full strip rebuild, stay away from the kevlar bands, also, if you decide on the alto frictions (i would go with the raybestos) skip the kolene steel plates,(use factory, or good aftermarket) they are way thin, and it doesnt take much heat to toast them in a hurry.
