Me and my buddy are building a car and we are putting a C4 in it. I was wondering what kind of ATF goes in it. I thought just mercon but wanted to make sure we were putting in the right fluid. And also If any one knows how much it takes please let me know cause we need to know how much to buy. The converter has a little in it now but that is it. Also what brand kind is the best fluid to go with. We are going to be racing the car so some thing with a healthy shift. If it helps any it is a 26 spline input shaft and a case fill C4.

Thanks,
Dave

Use Type F fluid. It will probably take 10-12 quarts.

Some recommend Mercon/Dexron III, but these have additional additives to allow slippage for a smooth ride. Type F does not have these additives and will give you more firm and short shifts. You could certainly use Mercon/Dexron III if it is for a stock application and you want it to be smooth, but it doesn't sound like that's what you want to do.

Type F isn't so common these days. I usually get mine from Advance Auto Parts.
