C5 tanny? Better than C4

The guys that I bought my 351W from also had a C5 tranny. I don't know much about these. I was thinking about maybe putting in my 94'. I know the C5 as OD but is it a good tranny?

You mean a C6?

From my limited knowledge, the C6's were used in heavy duty or big block applications. Basically, comparing a C4 and a C6 is like comparing the Turbo 350 to a Turbo 400. It's more or less the same thing, just heavier and stronger.

Nowadays, there are kits that can make your C4 virtually indestructable. I'm speaking for a stock versus stock standpoint when comparing the two.

Are you sure the C6 has an overdrive? I thought they were 3-speed.

No, I am talking about a C5. I know what the C4 and C6 are. The C6 were used for the mostly for big blocks and C4 were for small blocks. Either had OD. I haven't never even heard about a C5 until last weekend. The guy just had it sitting in his garage. It had a been rebuilt and he wants $150 for it. It is worth more than that but he is selling all of his stuff cheap because he needs to make room to put his nova. And this is one badass Nova. The guy is trust worthy too. I guess the C5 has OD. I know somewhere has to know something about them. And Nik I know a guy at work that has raced for like 20 years so he knows a lot of people. He hooked me up with guy that I bought the motor from. I got it for $300 complete. I even have the little things like starter, alt, etc. He also gave me a crane fireball 2 cam that is brand new. I am going to build a 393 or 408 stroker and put it in my fox body.

from what i remember with my old capri, was that the c5 was junk...it wasn't as reliable as the c4....i was going to swap the straight 6 to a v8 and was told that i should change out the c5 for a c4...as the c5 didn't have as many available parts, and it wasn't as strong or reliable..
