Cabin Air Filter?

Anybody changed their cabin air filter? How bad a job was it? Where did you get the filter? Number? I assume it's a dealer item, just wanted to know if I can change it myself.

Hey BigCat, you help so many people (including me), now I'll help you. Look at page 32 (2006 owners manual) under "climate controls". Yes, the SN197s do have them.

Its about a 5 minute job. I got mine from Moss for $20. Think you might be able to beat that price if you check around. Was surprised how dirty mine was at 15K miles

take off the cowl, the filter is on the right I believe. When I get home thursday I will post the Ford instructions. I have them on my home PC.

Yes, the filter is on the passenger's side just underneath the wiper, behind the plastic cowl cover. There are four plastic trim screws holding the cowling on there, and it probably pays to take them all off rather than just the two on the passenger's side. I haven't done this myself because it probably doesn't need changing until maybe 20,000 miles. Unless you live in Death Valley

You can also get the filter at your Friendly Ford Dealer. But, it's probably cheaper via the internet.

+1 what is Moss? I imagine it is some internet site/company that sells automotive products.

its really very easy.its under the right side wiper.you have to lift off the black cowl molding an you'll see it sitting in there.putting in the new one can be tricky.once you put it in put the trim back on and your done.i bought mine at ford dealer for about $20 bucks.it was very dirty.

I was trying to upload the ford instructions, but the file size is to large.

The cabin air filter is located under the RH cowl To install a new cabin air filter, remove the RH cowl vent screen.

Motorcraft FP53 is supposed to be the part #. I got mine for $10 from Yocum Ford: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214259

Filters

Thanks guys. Doesn't look like a big deal to change. I ordered a fuel filter (Motorcraft) and cabin air filter (Bosch) from Rockauto. I wish I had seen the one from MOSS before I ordered, it looks like a good one.

i changed mine this week and it was filthy. i only have 20,000 miles and it was really needed!



i took pics along the way, so if anyone wants real pictoral installation instructions other than the brief instructions from the link above, let me know and i can put something together.

one other thing i recommend is to check inside the cowl for debris. on older cars, stuff gets down there and collects moisture. then it causes a huge rust hole. so while you are looking in ther, clear out anything that may be inside. i had nothing, but just look to be sure so your car will last a little longer.
