Ok I currently have an automatic setup in my car but am going to buy the mustangsteve cable clutch conversion setup. Its the one that comes with the pedals and master cylinder and everyhting needed for the setup. My question is to whether or not the dual MC and power brake setup will clear the shock tower in my 66. Will this be able to fit perfectly or am I just going to have to use non power brakes?? Thanks for the help guys.

It'll work! Steves not going to sell you something that wont fit, hes got alot of experience with 65-6 cars. Ive got the Mustang Steve cable kit in my 65, its a great setup, very smooth operating yet simple in design.

I'm almost positive you'll be ok man. I have the whole kit you have, the auto to manual one. It went in wayyyy smoother than I expected. Right now though, I'm still running the orginal single res. mc with the booster in the kit. Now this is on four wheel drums and the difference is amazing. Pedal effort is reduced so much. If you have any more Q's try his fyi forum, lotta help there.

Don't mean to highjack this thread, but...

Quick question guys,

If my car has factory manual discs up front and drums in the rear, and I decide to switch over to SSBC discs on front and rear, can I just add the Mustang Steve pedal setup with power booster and a proportioning valve to have functioning power disc brakes. What else would be required?

Thanks!

Kelton

Ive asked this before, and the best answer is to get a true disc/disc MC. A disc/drum MC will work in a pinch, Im told, if you remove the residual pressure valve from the port that goes to the rear brakes. This is for Fox MCs.....unsure about vintage MCs. Many ppl who upgrade to rear disc also retrofit a Fox/latemodel MC-booster....

www.ultrastang.com is a fine source for brake upgrade information.

ok so the cable clutch conversion comes with the power brake booster but no master cylinder right? so will a late model dual MC for disc/disc brakes bolt right onto the power brake booster? and also what headers to use also. I am either going to have a 302 or a 351w in my 66 coupe and would like to know what works/fits.

I am using a SVO master cylinder, everything fits great.... I still have to find the right headers... Tri Ys did not work.... :D

Tri Y's don't work too great from what I hear. I went with a set of Ceramic coated Hooker Competition (not the super comps). The fit around the cable is tight, but it does clear barely. If the cable was longer, I would be able to come around the front of the shock tower and that would fix alot of the issue. Right now I have about 1/2 clearance between the header, cable and shock tower. The other tight spot is where the cable goes into the bellhousing. There I have about an inch, when the cable is pulled towards the steering gear. I used the included bracket in this location after removing it from its orriginal location.
