CAI/tuner on 87 octane?

How much HP? Gas prices are just to high for me to go any higher than 87.

The main reason I'm looking into tuning is because I'm about to install the MAC O/R prochamber with my FRRP axel back and I want to get the car running right after installation. I figure since I have to tune after the exhaust, I might as well install a CAI at the same time. But again I want to stay on 87.

I had a performance 87 tune placed on my car. My buddy had an identical setup other than a 91 tune. We dynoed them back to back he only made 1.5hp and 6 ft/lbs more and that was rear wheel numbers. I know no 2 cars will be the same but. Mine pulls as hard as his. Make sure you just find a good tuner and dyno it. I deal with MDmotorsports in Cincy. Good luck!

Sorry, I don't have any dyno numbers for you. But, I can tell you that with just a CAI from aFe and an 87 octane tune from Paul's High Performance stored in an SCT X-Calibrator 2, the car is running significantly stronger than stock. The tune also fixed the throttle lag. The response is instant.

It'll cost you a few bucks (maybe $700) but I think it is worth it. I've had no driveability problems. The stuff has been in there for a few months now, and it's doing fine. 20 MPG in town. Haven't had much chance to take a road trip, but I think it will do 25-27. In traffic, at low RPM it feels just like stock. At WOT the shifts in my auto are very crisp, and it gets up to highway speed very quickly.

We dynoed a automatic on 87 and picked up 20 RWHP and 20 RWTQ. %spd would be a couple higher.
Keep in mind with the tank size of the Mustang, the $.15-$.20 difference in 87 vs.93 comes out to about $2.80 per fill up.
You got to ask your self is 8-10 RWHP worth $2.80?

I went ahead and ordered the JLT CAI/Tuner and the MAC offroad prochamber today from brenspeed. I'll make another sound clip of my borlas after I get it all on.

No offense but, you can afford a 28,000 dollar car and kick out over 500 bucks for a CAI but $2-$3 a fill up is a concern? The cost of that exhaust setup alone would keep you in gas for months. Go for the 91 tune, it's a mustang- not a hybrid honda!

My right foot is really heavy, those fill ups come OFTEN. It's just a bad feeling at the gas pump putting premium in a v8. I guess it's more psychological than anything else.

I know, filling up these days gives everyone a bad feeling, 87octane or not. I guess I'm just built another way. I refuse to let the prices dampen my fun. Besides, if I start to get depressed I just think of my ex filling up her Suburban and I'm all smiles again.

I dyno'd 289 RWHP using the 87 tune from JMS Chip.

Occasionally there was detonation at WOT, but it seems to have gone away.

Now I'm running the 91 tune with a few tweeks of my own.
Frankly, the improvements are not worth going back to the 87.

I average 19MPG driving 300+ miles per week.
Turned over 30K today!

The gas station folks really like me.
