Would a cold-air intake sound better than my K&N with a pulled air silencer? right not it just makes this whining noise and it's really annoying...I want the sucking sound that turns to a nice growl at high-rpms that my truck has

Yeah, when I had my MAC CAI I could hear the difference, mostly the air
sucking sound and not much more growl. The filter was in the fenderwell. With the filter in the engine area you probably would hear the growl, that would be
the MAC straight shot CAI. You should not be hearing a whinning sound, I dont,
and I have the K&N with no silencer as well.

It will sound better, but buy a high end CAI. A proven one, like the K&N or something. I had one of those $30 cheapo's off ebay, and on the dyno I made more power with the stock airbox and K&N than with their whole setup. The cheapo CAI whined a bit. I guess you get what you pay for.
