Caliper delimia

I thought I'd change out the front brake pads this past weekend but when I came to the repair section in my manual I was a little stumped.

According to Haynes, the caliper is either a single piston caliper or dual. The only dual piston caliper shown is for a Cobra Mustang. That's not mine. But when I looked at the back of the cars front calipers, there appears to be two pistons.

So, which do I have? And, how do I change out the pads. It's simple enough.

I only think I thought I would need to do would be to remove the lower retaining bolt on the caliper, right? If so, how do I keep the special washer nut from rotating while I loosen the bolt? It seems like the bolt just spins on and on.

you are trying to loosen the caliper slider pin. that's why is backs out slightly and just spins freely they are 2 piece calipers. the outside part rides on the 2 sliders and the inside part is bolted to the spindle. which are harder to get to but not that hard. i believe they are 5/8" or 11/16"

un bolt the caliper from the spindle and tak it off of the rotor. pull the slider off of the pins completely and remove the pads. this also allows you to use a C-clamp to slowly press in the pistons to put the new pads on. the rears are alittle tougher but not hard at all

I had the same thing happen when I did the brakes on my g/f's '01. Just get a pair of pliers or needlenose and grip the 'nut' on the pin while you turn the bolt. You'll notice that it has a flat spot on each side to get a wrench on. By the way, I was surprised as well to find the dual piston calipers in front, very similar to the cobra calipers.
