Mine just arrived and my 02 is an automatic so I'm looking for trans settings that work well to get rid of the slop when shifting. A trans cooler is on the way to so no need telling me to get one.

I used to have a Predator.

Torque Modulation: Off or 0%. That means don't pull back timing to lower the torque during the shift. Just say no to granny-friendly shifts.

Part Throttle Shift Pressure: I think I had the 1-2 at 35, 2-3 at 25 and the 3-4 at 10. You might start there and adjust to your taste.

WOT Shift Pressure: I think I had those around 100. I like 2nd and 3rd gear scratches.

WOT Shift RPM: I ended up with 5750, 5600 and 5600. That was track tested though.

Anything else?

Sold it. Bought an Xcalibrator2. I got tired of waiting on the custom tuner. We were working on a better part throttle shift schedule and I didn't want to wait 2-3 months between updates. The Xcalibrator2 lets me tweak the part throttle shift points by myself as often as I want.

Propeller, do you know the answer to ghoststang? I still have some laggy shifts I'm trying to get rid of & your info is really good.

Answer to what? I didn't catch his question.

Define laggy. What do you mean by laggy?

Sorry, I read ghoststang's post wrong.

It seems that in part throttle shifts it is not crisp like it is in WOT, especially 3-4, but I am afraid to set it too stiff because I hear overdrive is pretty weak in the 4R70W & I am scared to death of killing it.

Will your part throttle shift settings be pretty crisp & safe for the transmission?

I can PM you my Predator transmission settings later if you wouldn't mind telling me what you would change.

i actually just looked at my pressures and have them pretty firm on both the part throttle and WOT so i have no sloppiness what so ever. But firm shifts are not for alot of people under part throttle...

Can anyone post a link to some credible info on this "weak OD band" thing? Everyone says don't shift hard into 4th. I have yet to see a reason why.

Like I said, I had my part throttle shift pressures up high. Too high that it was too harsh. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Our transmission was designed to handle hard shifts at WOT. It will handle firm shifts at part throttle without a problem.

form what i know is that the O/D band is thin and a harsh engagement can fry it cause its not like the other gears that are clutch packed

Here is the thread that scared me about OD:

http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=805870

It involved some personal experience from people, you just have to filter some bullcrap.

I usually never turn off overdrive because my engine revs pretty high at 40-45 due to the 4.10 gears, and I am nervous about cooking my transmission (no cooler yet but very soon). Maybe I should turn off overdrive except the highway? Does everybody with autos do this?

That guy's sig shows he has a Fox. It won't have a 4r70w. Did his have one?

I remember seeing something on TCCOA about a weak OD band, whatever that is. But it applied to AODs, not 4r70ws. Somehow I think weakness this got applied to all Mustang automatic transmissions and the misinformation has spread like wildfire.

hmmmm.. interesting but either way when i race i leave O/D off i also leave it off when driving on the streets. The only time i use it is on the highway so that is why i just left it alone and didnt firm up the shift on the 3-4 shift
