Ok, i need your help, i used the search but couldnt find what i was exactly looking for...

I want VT Stage 2 cams. I love the lopey idle sound. But i have stock heads, and shortblock. My question is if i put the stage 1 cams in will i be making more power than if i put the stage 2 cams in?...or will be it be the same. Im willing to pay the extra money for the springs for the stage 2's for the lope. Iam just wondering if i will get the same power no matter which one i put in.

I would never put in any PI cam with stock valve springs, even the VT's (now CMS I believe) or comp 262's.

To see the gain a real gain of a stage 2 cam, depending on the specs, your going to have to rev the car past 6k, which again, you need valve springs to do safely.

With the stock heads, and compression, I would stay with a stage 1 cam, unless you race every weekend. Contact the new VT guy(member on stangnet), comp, Tim at MPH, and some others to get an idea of what you want. Also, most custom grinds are the same price as an off the shelf grind.

iam set on buying CMS ( VT ) Cams... I have no problem paying the extra 200 for the valve springs.. I just want to make sure that i am still getting the same if not alittle more power with the 2's than with the 1's with stock heads .. ( i no not to there potention ) but are they equal to the stage 1's in a stock heads.

if you rev the car, and have it dyno-tuned, yes, you will proboly get an extra 5-10hp out of it. However, you need to look at the entire powerband of each cam, again, where the professionals can help you. A cam that makes power much higher is not going to be as fun as a stage 1 cam for the street and occasional track use. I would rec. CMS stage 1 cam(if the specs are the same as the VT). Bigger is not always better, get a cam that matches what you do with your car, and not for the sound. In the end, you will be more happy.

ok but my question is, if i do the 2's will i still see the same gains as if i did the ones

Yes and no, you will lose low end TQ with the 2s but gain a little more up top and when I say up top I mean like 5500-7000rpm. Stage ones are the best to go with, you don't lose low end TQ and you make power from around 2,500 rpm-5500 rpm. If you do a P&P, LT headers and intake you will be in for a very nice power gain. You will probably be able to push close to 290rwhp. You might be able to squeeze out 300rwhp with full bolt ons.
