Cam Gear Key-way broke.........?

I have a 99 GT that i just had totally rebuilt as of right now it is making 450 rwhp with the help of a Vortech blower. I put a set of Comp Cams with .545 in lift and with it i had to put a new cam gear and key-way from Ford. With only 5000 miles on the newly rebuilt motor the key-way on one of the cam gears broke causing 3 bent valves. Has anyone ever heard of something like this before? I am being told the key-way that broke was just a freak accident and it hardly ever happens. So after $11,000 i had to tear it apart and replace the cam gear/key-way, and 3 valves; something has to be wrong with that.

the key-way is only about a $25 dollar part and according comp cams refered me to Ford for the cam gear/keyway ( apparantly there isn't high performance keyways like other parts).....So really i don't see how it could have broke.
