Whats the best heads/ combo deal? How much would install cost??? I have no clue as to what the labor would be. Would porting the stock heads be sufficient or should I get others?

What are your goals for the motor? Supercharger, turbo, nitrous, or naturally aspirated? Daily driven or just for fun at the track? Auto-X or drag racing? Are you replacing the internal? Adding a stroker kit? Upping/lowering compression with different pistons?

As you can see, you need to give some more info about your car and it's intended purpose lol

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I don't think there are "other" heads for the 3v motor. I think the best we can get at this point is a set of worked/ported/polished factory heads. I wish TrickFlow would step up to the 3V game like they did for the 2V motors, because I personally want to go N/A with some nasty heads, a FRPP intake, bolt ons, and some lopey cams. As far as cams go, I am personally eyeing the Detroit Rocker bumpsticks that Brenspeed recently released. Supposedly allows for near-factory operation with a 30hp jump and the idle is just plain sexy.

I didn't know FRPP had a revised head setup available, but if its that expensive for a shop owner, I'll find the power elsewhere. I wonder though, what's wrong with worked refurbs? I assume they QA them before sending them out, and until TF blessed the 2V world, that's all anybody had to work with from guys like Livernois, Patriot, etc...and it seemed to treat them ok.

Just looked up the 3v FRPP heads...hot damn, a grand a piece? That's brutal. But honestly, I can see myself saving up long term for their whole top end package with the intake, heads, cams, TB, and throwing some LTs, a CAI, and some bolt-ons and such at it to make mad N/A power...

as for the car...
keeping it n/a, basically just for fun and the occasional track day with friends. Yea, I agree with the 'other" heads for the car. I havent found any them, I guess I have to just have some work done on the stock heads. What kind of numbers can I expect with ported/ polished heads with a thumper cam?

That will really depend on how much work you have done to them. What all mods do you have done now? If I'm not mistaken, the stock heads already flow pretty well, if you haven't exhausted all the other N/A mods out there, you might get more bang for your buck from something else.

It really depends on all the mods you put around the heads, but I would say a 40-50hp gain over whatever you would have with your combo + stock heads probably is reasonable, with the 50 side being reserved for some big cams, a good intake, CAI, awesome exhaust, etc... I will say this: Going N/A and looking for power on these cars isn't cheap, it's much more labor intensive than a blower, and you might not ever hit the goal you want. That's why many guys just opt for a blower kit and call it a day. I personally love the idea of an old school N/A motor that's all cammed up and looking for a fight. Blowers are a little to exotic for my idea of a muscle car. If you have a number in mind and really want to keep the bottom line reasonable, you might look into something like a vortech kit because it's on in one day and you're off, vs. at least a week of shop time building and tuning a N/A beast. Personally, I'm willing to take on the challenge because that's what I really want to do.

$1,000K each is the regular CNC ported the big valve head is almost $1,900 each which is actually a lot cheaper when they 1st came out. I have to contact FRPP Monday and see what the new cost to me is because I still have the old expensive cost on my site..... Thanks for bringing it to my attention. :nice:
