i have an 88 5.0L 5 speed, with speed density. I have an o/r bbk x pipe with flomaster 2 chamber. i was wondering what cam i should get. in the summit mag, they said the ford racing ones you need mass air, any cam that i dont need mass air? thanks

speed density system dont really compensate for changes very well. It's recommend to go to a maf setup since a maf can read the changes in air flow and tell the pcm to compensate for the extra incoming air.

i have heard of some people useing a b-303 with speed density with out a prob. if you want max power get a custom burnt cam from ed curtis. it is the duration that kills S/D cars but they can still run like a Bat-Outta-Hell.

Since you didnt list any mods, then I'll say you dont need a cam right now. You might get a cool sound, but most will not be well matched to the stock parts. They'll move the powerband higher but the stock induction wont be able to keep up past 5000rpm, so you'll get a loss in torque with no high rpm gain. Typically, anyway.

When I replaced the timing chain in my 88 GT (2/88 build date) and did the new mods in my sig, I put the degree wheel on and took off the valve events. @ .050" lift I had 219° intake and 212.5° duration exhaust with 112.5 lobe seperation angle. The valve events were very close to the Crower 155110 cam and I installed it on a 108.5° centerline (4° advanced). I wanted to see what power I get from this cam with the new parts.

You should take off your valve events and see what your stock cam REALLY is! They vary from spec more than you think in some cases - like mine.
