cam question

ive got a 1991 5.0 with a complete msd igniton, edelbrock performer intake and edelbrock 4-barrel carb. ive got gt-40s to put on it but i was wondering what cam i shoud use. some of the cams say for MAF cars only but mines converted to carb. and will it be a big difference? any help is apreciated

TFS 1 would be a good choice. An e or b frpp cam would also be ok. Just find something mild that will help with the head flow Plenty of guys have ran the stock cam well into the 12's though.

Sorry, i missed the intake. That intake is a bigger issue for power than the cam is imho

i was looking into the b303 cam.. ive heard good things about it and its fairly cheap

I ran a B for a while with ported stock heads on my 91 and enjoyed it, but now I am going with the TFS stage 1 since that is what is recomended to run with AFR 165s.

That intake will work well with GT40 heads. I would look into Comp XE cams. You could do a XE266HR. The XE grinds have pretty aggressive lobes for an OTS grind and a split pattern is helpful.

To answer your question about MAF cams, it is never mandatory as long as you have some way to tune your AFR. What the manufacturer is saying is that with speed density and no custom tune, the cam will give the computer fits. With a carb it's too easy to tune for fuel. So, you shouldn't pay any mind to the "MAF only" cams.
