Cam sprocket on crank snout. Best way to install?

Damn, thing thing is tough. I checked it before I installed the keyway and it was tough to get on then. I got it on about 2" and I cant get anymore. Are they this tough or do I need an installer?

Been there and know what you mean, lol.

Clean up the snout and the inside of the gear hole with some emery cloth.

Use a little slick-um of some sorts when going back together.

I guess you could always heat up the gear a little for a bit more room to get it on the snout.

Use the BFH tool to make it slide on (big focking hammer) j/k but using a rubber mallet while "lightly" tapping it may get ur done.

I put a couple really big wrenches between the gear and the balancer bolt/washer, then tightened the balancer bolt.

I don't doubt that any of those methods will get it on there.

however ...................

There might come a day when you want to get it off.

Thats kind of the reason I didn't bring up the heat thing at first.

Just thinking out loud.

Gear pullers work good for removing it. Not sure how the heat would affect it tho...

Well, there you have it ...... there is always a way

I just spent a little time with the ole emery cloth to knock off the high spots until the gear would slide all the way on because ...............................

Ain't no way I'm gonna put one of those three jawed gear pullers around my Roll Master indexed gear set, lol.

If peeps can heat up a Romac HB which is divided by a rubber like substance and it doesn't hurt anything................................

I surely don't see how a little heat is gonna hurt a solid steel crank gear

Wow, this is kinda sorta turnin into a tech thread, what a concept

Well, I just got home from work with some emery cloth. Once I eat dinner i'm off to the garage to put it togetor.

Ok, just used the emery cloth on the sproket and then I used the piece of pipe to install it and it went on like a charm.
