Hi all, so I have a 91 mustang gt. I have SM79 aluminum heads. E cam and on3 kit. (Mega squirts ecu) When I put it up for winter it had a x303 cam in it. I was not happy with the cam. I won an e cam. So I went to work putting it in.

I lined up the dots, and worked backwards. I've done this before and am quite capable of doing this. Along the way I sold the cobra intake and bought a Holley single plane efi intake.

I got all my ducks in a row and everything installed. I finally go to start it and the motor starts hard and shows no vacuum at a horrible idle. Timing is set to 10*.

Now last year the x cam would pull 8-10inhg of vacuum. This e cam should be around 15inhg.

I did a compression test on cylinders 5-6. One is 90 one is 100.

I'm wondering what my next steps should be??
Could I be off a tooth on the cam, if so would affect it this much??
I do have a buddy bring a leak down tester over tomorrow
Thanks for any help I can get.

So I didn't finish the compression check. I drove the Car in the garage last winter. What I did do was pull the timing cover off. I had to check the timing chain oreantion. It's dot to dot.

But while I'm in there should I advance the cam?? I read that a lot of ppl do and get good results from it. I hate the thought of at 0* the intake just starts opening. I got + -4* right in my timing chain set.
.
Im still grabbing at straws. So I'll keep checking.

What does this mean?

Do you have pedestal or stud mount rockers?

So I think I found the problem. I don't think the intake was seated all the way. I feel like it sat down farther this time. I just have to wait for the rtv to dry.

Sounds like you have a few valves too tight.

Typically when you install a cam, even if it's one that's been done a thousand times before, you want to degree the cam, clay a piston and try a compression test afterwards. You never know if the dots on the timing gear set are correct, and last thing you want to do is introduce mr piston to mr valve and not have any compression. It's an expensive mistake to make and 99 times out of 100 when you do go dot to dot it's most likely fine. You just don't want to be that 100th guy.

Sounds like that isn't the case here, but something to keep in mind for the future.

So I'm really thinking it was leaking underneath the intake gasket. I took it off and replaced it I put rtv on both sides. And the. Normal a lot in the valley. I'm thinking with aftermarket heads and aftermarket intake it just is off a little bit. The sealant is drying as we speak and I'll fire it up tomorrow morning.

So to follow up. I always adjust my lifters 1/2 turn past 0 lash. I redid them and set them to 1/4 turn past 0 lash. Now I am good. I am pulling 10inkg at idle and it's idleing high. So I'll figure out my little vacuum leaks and go from there. Thanks for the help.
