CAM swap in a stock GT

Forgot to answer the question on how they pull down low. The car seem to pull at all rpm ranges. But when you are below 1500rpm you can feel it kind of shrug a little. Lets just say you can'y get any worse than the good old non-PI cams! I say go for the Comps or the Crowers. If you are going to do a cam swap why not go all out and get some wilder cams than the PI. Just a thought

Anyone care to comment what avg I would be making if I added the VT Engines Stage II cams? My mods are in my sig and I'm putting down 246/291 N/A. Would the Stage II cams be worth it for a daily driver or should i go stage I?

By "wilder" do you mean more aggressive than yours? or are you saying just better than the PI cams (like what you have)?

Did you have to change anything else when you did the swap? What gaskets/seals did you replace?

I really appreciate your input, especialy since we have the same year car.

I remember the stage I's dynoing something like 22 rwhp at peak. Down low remains relatively the same but mid to high rpms is where it will scream. I pm'd Scott from VtEngines and he said stage II cams make more power (obviously), but require new valve springs.

What about Gas milage?Will the stage 1 cams hurt it or help it,I know on older cars a new cam can both inprove gas milage and performance,my 66 has a cam thats 298 durration intake-300 exhaust,553 lift on intake 565 exhaust (that should be right on or VERY close to it) so I dont need a thumping idle in the new car LOL just a little more power.

To be honest with you I would not go any wilder than the ones that I have.( Mine are the 268H or a stage II) What I was saying was that if your going to do a cam swap and have a couple extra bucks why not just get something that is better than the PI cams.

When I completed the swap I did not need to replace any of the seals. Just be careful when you pull the valve covers off. It is a rubber gasket so do not pull to hard or you will rip it. The hardest part was putting the valve cover back on the passenger side due to the A/C components and the fuel lines. It is a little complicated to put cover on and keeping the gasket straight. Just have patience and it should be no problem. After you are all one you will be doing this-

P.S. I dropped my laptop so right now that is why I have no internet except for at work.

I want at least 20rwhp out of these cams, but I dont want to have to replace my valve springs also. Ill be getting LT's before the cam swap and after the swap Ill be getting a torque converter. What cam should I go with?

I say since you have a PI car go with the VT stage 1 or any of the Non-PI aftermarket cams With these you should not have to change your springs. The cams with LTs and a good dyno tune would make a world of difference.

if any of you are considering this, i would only consider the vt cams, because quite a few people have had piston to valve clearance issues with anything higher than the comp 268s

i am going for vt stage 2s and comp springs.
