Cam Talk

It needs new valve stem seals and I was gonna resurface the valves anyway so I'll just replace the springs while I'm at it. I just ordered bank shorty headers yesterday and am going to order the off road h-pipe next payday so that might take care of my exhaust issue.

just fyi just in case you've never had experience w an "off road" mid-pipe, they make for a smelly cabin.

If you have to put money into the heads at least go get some gt40's. You can have a better head For only a little more cost. You can get a "finished" set of heads for around 500$ Stock heads are a waste of time/money.

You can make something of the stock heads (take my word for it) but I agree that for the money spent, your better off going with a better head. Unless you have some reason to keep the stockers, I say get a better head, and go for an aluminum set if possible.

About how much do yall think it'd cost to have valve seals replaced? I'd base my decision on how much it'd cost to have new seals and springs and how long realistically it'd take me to save enough to get new heads and everything needed to compliment and complete the top end. I say this because he sounds pretty hell bent on putting that cam in now.

Don't tear apart your engine just to rebuild your E7's and put in a cam. It's a waste of time and money if on the horizon your seeing yourself being able to afford a legit HCI combo. Be patient and wait.

A while back I bought some GT-40 (3 bar) heads that were just pulled off an explorer for $200. They needed to be machined and rebuilt with quality valves, springs and I wanted to port them a little. After getting off the phone with the machine shop  I put the GT-40 heads back on Craigslist. Stay stock or go aluminum, those are the only two options in my opinion.

Are the edlebrock e-street heads good?
I've heard some bad things about them, the Edelbrock performers/rpm have a better reputation, TFS, AFR are the way to go. TFS is a very Mustang 5.0 dedicated brand and they're good so that's why you'll get a lot of recommendations about them. Buy it RIGHT the first time, it's a large purchase so don't try to cheap out on this part.

How fast are you trying to go? I'm not sure if you said and I missed it but is this a daily driver or a weekend play toy that you like to take for a spirited spin down the twisty back roads on sunny days? Or are you making a street/strip kinda thing that you plan to race every weekend?

Daily with decent power
That's an expensive game.. The hard part about daily driving a 20 yr old "hotrod" is having enough money to make repairs that 20 yr old cars need and to supe it up.
*Edit* Man if it's a daily driver you might want to hold off on the cam install but if you really want it now make sure you have some extra money incase it gives you driveability issues. Maybe it's the 94/95 computers or maybe I'm just an oddball case but my 95 GT didn't want to idle for sht after a stock rebuild and a cam swap. I had to get a tune and it wasn't cheap. Like I stated earlier the cam didn't gain me much. It dynoed 205 and I think stock they dyno around like 190 or so.
