hey guys, i originally bought a FI 302 to put into my 240, but it needs to be rebuilt. just a few days ago my roomate and i scored a 98 coupe with manual transmission for free (the whole car) with only 100k miles on it. this thing is CLEAN! left upper frame rail is ****ed, so im going to take the drivetrain and put it in my 240 and hes going to use the brakes and 5 lug to put on his fox. ever since he got it ive been doing alot of thinking. the motor runs oh so smooth, tranny shifts good, and not a leak anywhere. the motor is so clean you could literally set a slice of pizza on that bitch while youre working on it, and pick it up and eat it!

ive already decided on ditching the 5.0 just because of the simple fact i have a complete running perfect condition motor WITH transmission (didnt have a tranny for the 302 yet). another factor is that it will weigh quite a few pounds less than the all iron 302. i have everything i need to get this running in my 240 minus custom driveshaft, and mounts, and whatever other custom fab work ill have to do to make everything work.

ive been searching on numerous sites about single turboed 3.8l v6s. it seems that they have a great potential. now onto the technical stuff.... cam. before i put the motor in my car i want to put a cam in it. any links and info to a good cam that will be beneficial once boosted later down the road? can i get away with stock valvetrain on a certain cam?

next thing.... engine management... im not planning on tearing down this free motor i got, so i want it to last. where can i get something that works good and i can tune it myself? im not talking about one of those cheap ass chips you get sent in the mail and go. im not talking about full standalone either... more along the lines of hondata for hondas if you know what that is. that **** works awesome. now if i can find something like that for this 3.8 im game.

last thing.... i will do a single turbo setup eventually after i get everything running, and suspension setup and track time in the car which is what im building it for. im going to go with a single t4. dont know the exact size yet... maybe someone could help me out with that.... little to no lag, 350 whp at about 10-12 psi.

the main thing for now is the cam, and something to tune the bitch with... thanks

found this the other night while searching.... does anyone have this equipped on their car?? has alot of features, but its nothing like hondata where you can go in and manually change the fuel/timing tables.... sounds and looks pretty sweet though for the price.

what is up with this forum?? does anybody not have any experience or knowledge to talk about the subject posted?? main thing i want to know is where in the hell can i get a cam for this thing, and a good EMS. thats is. any help would be appreciated. links... anything. thanks. anybody know how much this motor weighs without tranny? im guessing around the same weight as the ka motor that comes stock in the 240 chassis. iron block AL head. plus all the brackets in the 3.8 are all AL which i like and AL heads which = less weight and easier for p&p. all the brackets on the ka motor are iron. another thing i like about the 3.8 as opposed to the 2.4 inline 4 and 5.0 is it has a distributorless ignition system. i need something that i can change the ignition timing with the ems. HELP?

Well dude. Asuming im correct your on a mustang forum for v6's also. Refering to a 240 i asume your refering to a 240SX in which case your asking probably the wrong people. The site name itself should be enough but your asking questions about matching domestic compontents with import component and most people who drive a mustang drive a ford and probably dont drive a import. But it sounds like a good idea so you shoul defintly put a update down the road. Could b interesting

OK first off nice idea with the 3.8 in a 240.

now tuning you need to talk to Justin Starkey at www.vmptuning.com best V6 tuner out there

i may be offering turbo kits later this year for 3.8's but you best bet now is www.tmaturbo.com

a T4 is way too small for a single kit for the 3.8.

a turbonetics PT61 is near ideal. a cheap power maker is a Holset dodge turbo diesel turbo. while not ideal and poop out up high they still make nice power on 99+ engines.

the 98 engine is a good one but suffers from restrictive intakes. heads are really good and can be ported out to equal some of the best aftermarket 5.0 heads.

matt Neuharth at www.delkperformance.com can spec out a cam for you. he is the curent fastest V6 stang out there running 9.85 in the 1/4.

also www.supersixmotorsports.com can supply excellent 3.8 products as well.

as for comparison my 98 procharged 3.8 only makes 230rwhp 270ftlbs on the stock engine. a 99+ 3.8 makes 300rwhp/300ftlbs torque at the same 11 psi. the intakes are alot better on the 99+ but pre 99's or singleports can make impressive power. matt's car is a single turbo pre 99 engine.

the 3.8 will handle more power than a 5.0 too stock blocks being compared.

to get 350rwhp from a pre 99 with a turbo on a stock engine it's really not possible at 10-12 psi. a 99+ engine yes it is easy. 10psi on a pre 99 engine will give about 260rwhp and a whopping 350ftlbs torque. a 99+ engine with 10psi turbo will make your 350rwhp. good news is you can easily put a 99+ splitport heads and intakes on the 98 block. it would be the cheapest way to make the power you want from the 98 engine. heavy porting and a custom intake might get you there on a singleport setup but a splitport swap is easiest for the money. if money isn't much of an issue then port the hell out of the 98 heads and make a custome upper intake mated to a heavily ported lower intake using a 5.0 or 4.6L T-body and at least 42lb injectors and lightning MAF and mafia Extender. maybe 60lb injectors if you want more power. Matt Neuharth is making over 600 at the wheels on stock ECU with tuning. i will post some more stuff in alittle while. my computer is taking a **** right now so i'll be back
