I bought my car with the motor work already done. I'm not too fond of the cam that's in it though, as it likes to rev higher than I do. I was wondering what kind of lift I can get by with using the 1.72 RR. The motor has Scat forged 306 pistons in it at 9.5:1 cr. Not sure on the specific of the valve reliefs, so better safe than sorry. Also it would be off the shelf, since I plan on doing a Windsor when I get out of school.

I'm sorry, was this a question? Hard to help because I don't know if this was a statement or a question. I'm running a B cam with 1.72 rr's and it sux! Yeah it increases the lift from very little lift to little lift lol but that's about it

I'm asking what kind of cam lift I can safely run without slapping the valves with the top of the piston.

Considering nobody here put your 306 together, nobody here is going to have an accurate answer.
Do you even know what cam is in it?

That is why I said better safe than sorry. Meaning if it had stock valve reliefs what kind of lift would I be safe running. And no I don't have the specs of the current cam. It went through another person after the owner that built it and some of the info was lost. I do know it has 1.72RR as I adjusted the valves myself recently.

it depends on the cam, it's not a matter of lift but when the valves are opened and closed. without knowing your cam or how deep the valve reliefs are in the pistons you have there is nothing anyone here can really tell ya

Need to know heads, valve size, etc.

Hard to really say what cam will work with the heads and pistons you have.

It's hard to say if you will have PTV issues. It's a trail and error situation. I have a E cam with 1.72rr and have no PTV issues.

max lift is not what you look for when wondering about pvc. its the valve events and how aggressive the ramp rates are on the cam lobes. when you valve are at the max lift the piston will be at the bottom of the cylinder. theres no way to really help you here but if you had stock heads and stock pistons, a .498" lift is probably all you need considering those heads or gt40's unworked dont flow much past that i dont think. could be wrong. good luck!

i run keith black pistons with gt40 heads, 1.7 rr (stock with 93 cobra) and e303. no problems, about .529 lift.

The heads have supposedly been ported, but I have no proof of this.

as you can probably tell from the responses already given, there's no real way to tell what's in there without tearing it apart. Can't give much help without really knowing the specs of the engine unfortunately
