I'm looking to pick up some power. I know next to nothing about the SOHC 4.6, lol I'm into 5.0's, but this is for my g/f's '04. I don't even know what cams cost or which ones to go with if I did put cams in it. Would it need a reflash of the computer or some kind of tuner with cams to make it run right? She will be getting a catback next year. Not planning on gears yet.

It depends on which one you go with weather or not you'll have to do any reprogramming. Same goes for the valve springs,ect,ect...

Comp Cams has lots of different cams to choose from and their's are some of the best, but you're going to pay some big bucks. The prices listed in the link are a bit high, you can find them cheaper. Just added it to give you an idea of what you could be looking at price wise.

When I get a Vortech (hopefully over the winter) I'll be changing the cams while I'm at it.

Cams are definitely worth it but I would wait till you have your other bolt-ons done first...exhaust, gears etc. I used the VT stage 1 cams and gained 33rwhp and 13rwtq but I also have every other bolt on available. You will need some kind of performance chip to tune the car after the cams...I went with a Superchips and the car runs great. The VT Stage 1's allow you to run the cams with the stock springs which I did...anything more agressive and it is highly recommended that you swap springs.

Comp cams are good cams. if you get the 102500 cam, it should pass smog in mass and make decent power. you can find them on ebay for about $550. you'll also need valve springs which will run you about $200 and then you'll need to have them installed. Comp says that you shouldn't need to reflash the chip but it never hurts to retune if you make some mods...

Just please don't try to scare the guys in this thread out of getting cams by telling them that they have to remove the engine from the car.
