cams in an automatic?

hey,

ive been doing a little saving and got some christmas money now. ive been manting cams for a while now but been trying to fight it off so that i could do something with my 5.0 or just saving it for a rainy day...i have an automatic car, but im wanting a nasty sounding cam. i dont really want a stall cause my daily driver isnt really dependable so sometimes i have to drive the mustang. ive been thinking about the cms(used to be VT) stage 1 cams. i was just looking for your opinions here. im probably going to port my heads while im at it, i dont know if i will or not though. and while im at it i may also get an intake manifold. should i go with the prof. products intake or what do yall think on these ideas? ive been tossing it around for a while now so i just want some others ideas too.

I have VT stage 1 cams, stall isn't required I don't think, but it helps. I have one, so i wouldnt know how itd be w/out. It's not a nasty idle, just a healthy lump lump lump that's pretty unmistakable. I wouldn't port the heads, you dont take off the heads for the cam swap - so there's no reason to dig into the engine more. As for intake manifold, few offer real gains. Money is better spent elsewhere, especially if you're looking at the prof. product one.

+1 i have heard the same thing to many times, i have looked into it, but for a N/A its just not worth it, plus its aluminum, so it will get alot hotter then the stock plastic one..........

well i really want a stall but im worried bout the driveability on highway and such. and as for the heads ive got connections on the port so i figured while i was out of the car for a few dyas why not go ahead and do it so that it could just be one of those mods that you dont tell anybody and then when they ride it they say it runs really good for a stock car...

A stall is not going to affect drivability at all. I have a 3200stall and it drives like stock under normal driving. Unless you go more aggressive (4000+) it won't be bad. My buddy has a 3600 on his and it is a little noticeable but most wouldn't notice it.

going down interstate stalls dont effect drivabilty? i was always worried that you know going down interstate at 2500rpms@70 or so it would be bad on it if i went with like a 3000...and also what brand and such stalls are most of you running?

You really need to read up more on how converters work - especially lock-up converters like ours. I still don't think you should pull the heads off to port em, it's not even close to something you do "while you're in there". Even if you have a porting hook-up. This coming from a guy with stage II heads.

A locking stall basically has no affect at highway speeds. It will be just like the stall you have now. Really the only time you can tell you have a stall is when you go WOT.

In lower gears and WOT. On freeway it wont even affect your mpg.
