Cams in otherwise Stock Car

I have some money saved up for some mods and I've decided on 4.10 gears for sure. Other than that, it's all up in the air. I'm looking at a complete intake package (everything but the manifold) that should get me around 20rwhp.

How would that compare to a set of VT stage 1 cams on an otherwise stock 2000GT? Will the cams get me that much without any intake and exhaust mods?

Thanks

Here is a dyno of the VT Engines Stage II cams in a '00 GT with the only mod being welded in Flowmasters. No other mods were made to get these results. If they had been out when I ordered my Comps, I would have gotten the VTs instead.

millatime,

that link is not very helpful for two reasons.

1. They are using a set of blower cams

2. The engine only has 8.9:1 compression

I think that you would see better gains with a set of cams.

If you read the title of the heading of the thread, you will see that Tim says that he thinks he found a new N/A cam. If it is not impressive to see close 25 rwhp gain with 8.9:1 compression, then I don't know what will impress you. With stock compression (9.38:1), the gains would be higher. In case you didn't know, a lot of cams out there (such as the comp 270s) are very blower friendly, and thats what modular powerhouse is finding with these cams.

BTW...the 25 hp gain is with stock mufflers, stock h pipe, stock manifolds, everything stock except for the motor with lowered compression

That recent finding has left me very happy :D

I saw it in a post over at the Depot and it made me happy that if I can pull the money together to get a blower, I won't need different cams to get good results.

I think this recent finding has made a lot of people happy...myself included, and I haven't even gotten cams yet. It is just nice to know that there are more options for us out there.
