My question is in regards to the camshaft position sensor on my 1998 Mustang GT. I was told this sensor is behind the power steering reservoir on the driver's side. Is this sensor a simple plug in or does it require any special calibration or alignment process? My check engine light was coming on at random intervals and when I checked the code I came up with a "camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction" code.

Any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It simply fits in a hole and has one bolt if I remember correctly. Nothing too difficult. I just remember moving and re-installing it during my cam swap.

Take off your power steering reservoir, then take the bolt out for the sensor. Make sure there are no metal filings on the tip of the sensor that could interfere with the magnetic field it has to create. The next best thing would be to test it with the engine running to make sure its sending the PCM a solid good pattern. Might be tough since the problem is intermittent. Might be a loose connector too, if you're lucky.

Your camshafts are in a wierd place. You might want to get that checked out.
