Hmmm...

Looks like dual push button map lights. Hopefully that type of stuff will not be standard so I can check the 'delete' box, along with the spoiler.

It's likely map lights and limited function computer that toggles between showing outside temp & compass, avg. fuel economy, miles left to empty, stuff like that. Can't imagine why you would be so nit-picky as to want to delete a box that is up on the ceiling, not in your way or line of vision, probably weighs all of 8 ounces, and would maybe save you a lousy $20 bucks on a delete credit. Ford's not likely to make something that innocuous "optional", it'll be standard. Would be great if they would include some programmable garage door opener switches into there as well, eliminating the need to have a loose opener rattling on the console or clipped to the visor.

What can I say, I'm a purist. Now if it does have some other more useful function such as you have suggested, then that's fine.

Every several years they roll out a model for purists........ the R model ....... too bad it costs an arm and a leg to toss out all of the unwanted fluff and drop in some serious go-fast hardware!

Good call on the R. I am suprised I have not heard any complaining about how you can make the lights on the gauges 125 different colors. So pointless, I'd rather see some stock 18s (although more costly then LED technology) but at least something not as worthless as 125 different light colors (as long as I can see the gauges in the dark then the light has served its purpose)...

Maybe it has one of those cool swing down chrome map lights like they had in the early 80's Mustang (80-84). Anyone remember those? Truly a technological breakthrough for Ford.... LOL

Hahaha...my '88 has that, and it was available until '93.

I "love" how outdated it looks in my car, but I also love how convenient it is.

My 85 didn't have it, I guess because of the sunroof. I had no idea they continued putting them in there!!! Like I said, cutting edge technology

Mazda 6

I just bought a 2004 Mazda 6.

It has a similar unit there with two map lights and a sunglasses storage compartment. I don't know if the sunroof version has it (might be replaced with the buttons in that case).

I was thinkin it was a garage door opener. My dad's car, an Acura 3.2 cl has a thing that looks like that that programs your garage door opener.

Thats too fancy for a mustang...
but again, for the Mazda 6, the programmable garage door opener is an option for your rear view mirror (a few buttons and such).
My best guess is the sunglass holder.

LOL, my '84 GT had one of those nifty devices. On the Mazda 6 subject, has anyone noticed we are getting Mazda 6 door handles on the Mustang? If they aren't the same piece, they are very close. I guess it works for Chevy, with Malibu door handles(C5) and steering wheel(C6). Recycling is a good way to reduce cost, which is why the new Lightning and SVT Mustang will share the same supercharged 5.4 3V engine.

Makes sense since they are building the "6" and mustang in the same plant. I wouldn't be surprised if they were shared with other vehicles as well. If it's in the parts bin and it works, use it.

Clearly looks like a dual map dome light to me.

The garage door openers (homelink) on Fords are located on the driver's side sunvisor. I agree that it probably won't make it on the Mustang. Although I would love it as my Navigator has it and previous Explorer had it as well. It's nice to be able to lose the remotes.
