Can Exhaust Get INTO Tranny/Differential..?

Hey what's up guys, my 95 tbird has a rust section which is small but enough to make some exhaust dump under the car. It is near the tranny and one of the guys at the shop said either cover it, or the best bet cut out the section which is only about 5 inches and add new pipe and sleeve it etc...

They did ask how long it was like this...i said i didn't know. They told me the exhaust gases can flow into/condensate into the tranny or even the differential...? Is that true..? I know alot of mustang guys, or even modded tbirds dump the exhaust under the car.

I'm gonna cut the pipe myself, it's 2.75in i believe, would a tool like this work..i really don't wanna use a sawzall...i'd rather do it by hand, yet not use a ghetto hacksaw..lol.

They might be trying to say that if there is a hole near the tranny or diff that the gasses will heat up the tranny or diff beyond the limits of the fluid inside of them

Exhaust "turn-downs" are used to point the exhaust at the ground. Exhaust that is allowed to exit with no forced direction away from the undercarriage can contribute to excess heat in the differential & fuel tank. Same issue could apply to your tranny if exhaust gases are constantly surrounding it. Take ur car to any decent muffler shop; welding in a new peice of 5 inch tubing is a simple & cheap fix.

Thanks guys. Hmmm....i'm thinking of maybe choppin both ends and putting turn downs on each pipe....this would pretty much be true dual exhaust through the 2 stock cats.....

How would that sound.....i might have to try this..lol.

Turndown = loads of bass & lots of car alarms going off. I personally dislike the sound, but you may love it.

lol, yeah car alarms....i get that with my system.

But how would true duals actually sound through a stock cat on each pipe..? No mil lights will show cause this is all after the o2 sensors.

Right now the stock piping is 2-1-2 and i got no mufflers-strianghts in its place. The car sounds decent, although its sound coming through 2 cats, a resonator, and another cat near the resonator... I'm wondering if it will be MUCH louder and deeper with true dual, exiting out after the 2 stock cats..?

Well if its anything like running with just the stock H on - it's loud. And it grumbles cause it's so angry.

You know what i could do, tell what you think...

I can cut out say a 5 inch section in each pipe just before it goes 2-1....then sleeve on a turn down on each pipe so it would be exiting right at the middle of the car-towards the concrete.

If i want it normal again...just get 2, 5inch sections and sleeve them in place to "re-stock" the piping..lol.
