can i change my radio?or is there amps

can i put an aftermarket radio in my 95 gt 5.0?are my speakerwires in the dash and all that?or are there little amps somewhere that are gonna complicate my life?
i got a nice alpine dvd/cdrw/mp3player w/a 6 inch screen i wanna hook up..the one that folds out..
can i just get an adapter plug that plugs into the harness?ive destalled and installed hundreds of radios but never 95 ford?

my h/u didn't need the mps so i just butt connected the speaker wires

If you have the non-mach460 radio, the amplifier is in the dash in front of the shifter, below where the cd player would be. If you have a mach 460, the amps are in the trunk between the two rear speakers.

adapters arent 50 bucks, and you can always do it without one if you know what you are doing. i.e. know which wire goes where

also, any further speaker work depends on if you have mach 460.

you can hook that pimp player up, just make sure you dont have it low enough where your shifter and hand hit the screne when you throw 3rd

I was lazy and had a local reputable shop do the install and it worked nice. I've got an Alpine HU and I am also running all of the Mach 460 stuff. Sounds very nice and the low end now has a little more punch. My Mach system only had the cassette, so for the past year I have been enjoying CD's. Much better.

All my install included was the HU, adapter, a little bit of labor. I hated that I had to actually read the instruction manual for the HU, but in the end it was worth it as there were loads of settings needed that made a huge difference. Out of the box it sounded like crap, but fixing the settings allowed me to get the sound I like. (I mention this because I have seen a few guys with expensive HU's that never adjusted the "audio" settings.)

Your gonna like your setup when it's done. Sounds nice.

Metra carries kits for 94-98 Mustangs, with or without Mach 460. They also have a kit for 99+, so make sure you're getting the right kit. The kit plugs right into the factory plugs, but you'll have to splice the wires into the wiring harness that comes with your aftermarket head unit. No big deal, the wires in the Metra kit are marked as to which is which.

I believe the Metra kits are around $8-$15, nice and cheap. Most stereo installation shops can order the kit, even if they don't stock it.

i keep forgetting to detail my cars specs....
its the regular ford crummy tape player..and i got an auto no 5speed.
my main question now is does it have any amp?or is the h/u the only power source..another words if i cut my radio out...all the power,ground,speaker,triggers,dimmers etc are all there?and i could wire the speakers and all,assuming i know whats what?als i have a 95 gt no mach,or cd or anything..under my radio is a hole...like for my ciggs...rrrrrrrr im gonna go nuts if theres an amp somewhere screwin up my speaker wire run!!!!!!!!!!its not a good thing when you try to wire a live speaker wire into a speaker w/ a amplified powersource running into it already..

That hole underneath there is where the factory CD player would go if you had one. The "hole" is just a filler for the non-CD cars. I use mine to store trash. You most likely have an amp directly below the "hole". To find out, pull the CD player out, then remove the "hole" insert. There are two clips, on the top & bottom. Use a couple of screwdrivers for this one; be patient, it'll pop out. All the way at the bottom you should see an aluminum box with what look like thick fins around the side. That's the amp. It drives all four speakers from it.

I don't think there was a factory sound system that didn't have an amp. Anyone?

Unless you're adding extra speakers or a subwoofer, there's no need to cut the factory wiring. See my earlier post. If you want to radically change the speaker setup, it's probably easier to just run fresh wiring throughout the system

ok then ..if there is an amp,,then you could not use an aftermarket radio cause the output level is so high right?unless this stock amp has a high level input??or does the stock radio have no pre amp?meaning it wont work w/out an amp?
i could just cut the wires from the amp and=theres my speakers w/no problems right?but then i gotta fish for dimmers and whatever else was jumped in to it toooo...
so which is it?

I had a Clarion in my car once hooked up with a kit made for our cars. If you use the kit it wires up like stock and playes everything nicely. The amp (if you have the mach460) is located in the trunk. You don't need to cut out the amp. I had the exact same thing, the crummy Ford tape player. All i did was pop it out, buy a wiring harness, hook it to my stereo, and slide it in, and I have absolutley no problems at all

Good choice on brand. When it comes to head units i don't f*** with anything but Alpine. To rid the extra weight I took my two stock amps out from behind the rear seat and went with all new wiring for the speakers which was a better quality than the factory wiring. Does your head unit only have pre-outs or does it actually have speaker wire hookups as well?

it has no wires on the radio exept for a din plug...that goes to the brain...the brain is ridiculous you can hook up alot of extras,navagation,2 aux inputs,remotevoice,etc....ut it has a 40x4 amp on the brain too...im not using that...i have two old fosgate amps from the 90 s that are more serious than the new amps..power 1000 if you know these amps your gonna be jelous...but anyway im gonna need a space for the brain its pretty big..about 6x12 1 inch thick...so m gonna need to scrap any stock amp that gets in my way...im gonna post a pic of my custom system after im done building it...there should be a forum for car audio for stangs!

When I installed my clarion head unit, I junked the stock amp in the dash and ran all new wiring. My head unit doesnt have an internal amp however, so I ran an amp in the trunk to all four speakers. The only hard part of the wiring is taking the doors apart to get to the front speakers. The sound is sooooo much cleaner now though.

TAKE A 9V BATTERY AND TOUCH THE TWO WIRES TO IT...LOOK AT THE SPEAKER..IF IT POPS OUT THE POLARITY IS CORRECT,,MEANING POS IS POS AND NEG IS NEG.IF THE SPEAKER POPS IN<POP MEANING IT WILL MAKE A CRACKLE NOISE AND MOVE?POPS IN IS REVERSED AND INCORRECT...SO THE POS PART OF THE 9V WILL BE YOUR POS PART OF THE SPEAKER WIRE....
