Can I do it?

My buddy has a 1995 BMW M3 5 speed which is plain jane stock. He wants to go with me something aweful. The question I have is, can my 2002 GT 5-speed with just a magnapack cat back system beat his M3 from a complete stop? I looked at the horsepower numbers and the M3 only has 240 but he is has a weight advantage. But I think I have an advantage with gearing and torque. What do you guys think? I figured if anything, it would be a really good race but I am hoping to get the upper hand.

my brother has an MCoupe, which is an M3 inline 6 in a Z3 hardtop body. he's also got 3.73's. i have beat him more times than he wants to admit if you can drive, you'll do just fine.

I dont think my driving skill will be a problem...been driving stick for years...but he hasnt so that should make it even easier

According to that site, the M3 could easily beat a stock GT. I've seen stock GT's run 14's but never a 14.3. Just got me a little worried.

don't believe them. they are notoriously cocky, AND those numbers are flywheel if i remember correctly. they are rwd cars so they will lose 15-17% to the rear wheels. hell even my brother admits i can eat the E36 M3's for lunch...although if they put a turbo on they can own me

but i agree, e36 M3 < 99+ GT.

thats the E46 with the 333fwhp, and i have beaten 1 and lost to a few, i think my brother's engine isn't rated that high, like 240 at the flywheel, its from the E36 M3. he's in vegas right now or i'd ask him.

aaaaaaaah ok. we went to test drive z3's last year, the dealer wanted us to drive the 300+ HP M Coupe. we didn't go back to drive it though

hmmmm well my brother's is a 2000 or 2001 so maybe they put the more powerful M3 engine into the 02/03's or something...i dunno, its quick but where it shines is in handleing.

it's 3100lbs for the coupe model though... that's the problem i think

lol yea yea yea 270 i wanted the tq to be higher than 282 though

but his car is freaking light, like 350 or something lighter than mine so theres a bit of an advantage over my car. he'll out autocross me easily too

You haven't seen 99+ GT's run better than 14.3? Hmmmm... Those numbers seem correct for the E36 but the 99+ GT is faster all around unless you are talking about cornering, then see ya later GT.
From those numbers, the M3 will not easily beat a stock GT. The older M3's usually run in the mid 14's with a good driver while a well driven GT should be able to crank out 13.8-14.2.
I think if you drive well, you will kill him on the street. You have roughly 70 more ftlbs of torque (which rules in street racing) and more standard HP. They are not that much lighter than GT's so I don't think that will be a big factor. ....As long as you don't have 300lbs+ of stereo equipment.
