hey guys,
tommorow im going to be hoisting up my motor to change my oil pan gasket. i have the trans, bellhousing, clutch disc, pressure plate, and flywheel allready off, and i was wondering if i could use one of the bolt holes in the block that the bellhousing bolts to for a mounting point for the hoist. is this a sturdy enough place to bolt the chain?

On topic- I've never used that spot but have used similar points to lift other engines out...
Off Topic........LONG LIVE THE OPAL FROST....and what part of Va are you in....I grew up just south of Petersburg....

Opal Frost FTW!!!

Yes, you can use those points. My Mountaineer block is currently swinging from a hoist and I used a bellhousing point. I just have the shortblock hanging there, but I'm sure it would support the full weight of a longblock as well.

make sure you get the oil pan gasket that has the little plastic pieces that let you snap the gasket, and oil pan in place so you dont have to hold it, and try to thread a bolt in at the same time while upside down.....

I did this earlier this year when i replaced the oil pump....Good luck with it.

You can replace the gasket w/ the tranny still in the car. Motor needs jacked up about a foot or so. Loosened longtubes from midpipe and remove all the wiring harness's and everything and you can get it. Its really tight but it can be done. Any questions let me know.
