Can I get rid of heater core rails?

I bypassed the heater core a while ago. Now with the new motor I would like to get rid of the metal rails that run on the passenger side of the intake. If I can find some way to thread the sensor from the rail into the intake can I get rid of them? Any down sides why I should not do this?

If you are not using the EGR system, (not a good idea, fuel mileage will suffer) you may be able to find an adapter to screw the ECT sensor directly into the intake manifold water passage.

Get an adapter, 1/2" to 3/8ths I think it is so you can put the adapter in the intake and then the sensor in the adaptor.

Be careful if you use a bushing to position the ECT directly in the intake -- some bushings are big/tall enough that the ECT won't have the tip of it's sensor in the flowing coolant in the intake. It's important that the tip be submersed in flowing coolant to give accurate temp. readings to the computer. And as others pointed out, you'll have to find a new source of coolant for your egr spacer.

Well it is a track only car, I had a chip burned and had the EGR function turned off. So I figured I wont really need coolant to the spacer anymore, correct me if im wrong?

You are correct sir! So just find the most shallow bushing you can to put the ECT sensor into the existing threaded fitting that the hard pipe connects to. And simply plug (if you haven't already done so) the egr spacer return line in the back of the lower.
