Can I Get Rid of it?

MVC-863F.webp

I'm assuming it's the charcoal canister, right? What exactly does it do and can I get rid of it without any problems or a CEL. I don't have smog or EGR and I only have vac lines from my upper intake running to FP and the brake booster. I deleted the vac tree and don't use my HVAC or cruise.

Thanks guys
Dave

Why do you want to get rid of it in the first place? If it were me I'd leave it alone, I've heard bad things about taking out the purge solenoid, such as the lingering smell of fuel vapours. I'm not sure if it will throw a code though.

Dave, if you ever park near a light pilot light, I'd keep the system closed. I bet you could run the hose behind the plastic firewall cover, etc (to help aesthetics). I know you asked nothing about that, but it was worth bringing up, just in case..........

I really dont know about the CEL issue since I still have that crap (just replaced the lines on it not long ago because the fuel smell was driving me nuts. The line egressing the cannister was cracked). Bump for ya.

Good luck.

I just deleted mine, no tweecer here. I pulled out the whole charcoal canister as well. I capped the line coming from the tank going to the charcoal canister.

You "sometimes" get pressure built up in the tank.... when removing the fuel cap you'll get a big WHOOOOOOOSSSSSHHHHHHH! :D

Oh, I have yet to remove the line of gizmos at the top of the fender area. Lots of sensors and funky stuff going on up there. Thought about unplugging it all and seeing if it caused problems. Anyone know?

Justin, not a stupid question. With our high pressure pumps, I personally dont believe we can get vapor lock (people have debated me a little on this though).

Paul, what happens if the pressure relief in the gas cap fails (it's the back-up relief mechanism for the EVAP system).

I suppose is someone is really set on removing the CC, perhaps keeping the purge solenoid around and just venting it (the solenoid and its line can be relocated out of sight since it isnt connected to the intake any more). The purge solenoid would still function to seal the system a bit. Just another option..............

My tank turns funny shapes. :D BTW - The cap I have on the line is just a vaccum line cap with a small zip tie on it. I am pretty sure that will pop off before the tank gives.

Also, I removed mine if you will remember because my overflow for the charcoal canister was pouring fuel fumes into the engine compartment. That has stopped. I don't think my solenoid was working anyway. :nonono:

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. :bang:

Dave, what you outlined is how I would have done it too.

Also, I thought the gas cap only let air IN, not out.... thus the WHHOOOOSSSSHHHH???
They vent outward in case of excessive pressure so the tank doesnt rupture.

The whoosh is from the tank vent having a restriction.
