Can I have a gear change without a chip for my auto?

I really want to get some 4.10 gears for my auto gt, but can't really afford to buy the gears+labor+having either a chip or computer reflashed, this will add up to roughly $550.000 or more. My question is, can i just have the gears installed for now and have the speedo off for awhile or will my car not shift right without the chip being installed when i have the gears installed? Has anyone out there done this before, just changing the gears for now and later having a chip installed or having your computer reflashed to correct the speedo problem?

sure....i had the speedo gear in my 4.6 for like 2 years to correct the speedo

My car didnt shift right without the chip (esp part throttle). Youll also rack up milage and drop your cars value. I would wait and get the chip.

"007" is correct: the computer does not know that the gears have been changed so the trans is going to shift way early. Your speedo/odo will be reading
(4.10/3/27 - 1)x100 = 25.4% high so 1000 true miles will actually be recorded as 1254 miles and your true speed of 60 mph will indicate as 75.2 mph. You're in Texas so Dom at FordChip can fix you up with a chip or reflash.

No flame intended but with the auto transmission, a new speedo gear alone will not work for him. In a pre-99, it would correct the speedo/odo but the shift points would still be wrong. In a +99, it just doesn't work.

Yeah, it won't shift right without a chip. Just get a custom tune at the time you get the chip, you'll pick up some power and get your trans shifting hard, fast, and at the right times.
