can i install a five speed out of a 95 gt into a 91

i got a five speed out of a 1995 gt, and i want to install it into my 1991 gt that is already a five speed. Is there anything i have to be concerned about and is there any differences in that transmission compared to mine. I appreaciate the help

The input shaft is longer on the 95's tranny (by about 5/8" IIRC). You might want to swap the input shaft so you can use a fox bell.

thats what i've heard, you need the 94/95 bell housing to match. some one might make a spacer to use a 94/95 t5 with a fox bell.

im glad someone brought this up. i have an 89 coupe and bought a 94 gt for parts and wanted to use the t5 outta it. then found out the input shaft is longer. i was wondering if the sn95 bellhousing is used what would be the issue? if it bolts to the motor without a problem would it not just be possible to take the .60 inch extra length out of the driveshaft? not tryin to hijack the thread, im just in the same boat.

Swapping the input shaft and using a fox bell is the easiest.

If using a 5N95 trans and 5N95 Bell in a fox III, the shifter will be a little rearward of a stock shifter. I would expect slight tunnel clearancing to be needed at a minimum.



Guys do the opposite swap (using a Fox trans/bell in a 94-95) and the shifter does move forward a smidge, and they sell a DS spacer to make up the difference (though some dont use it).

ok so other than moving the shifter location back and trimming the floor a lil is there anything else that would have to be changed? will the extra half inch move rearward affect the driveshaft length or will it just slide into the back of the trans farther? if the only problem is the shifter location then i dont have a problem with the swap. also how hard is the input shaft swap?
