can I keep anything from my twisted wedge heads?

So I'll be swapping out the Trick Flows for a set of AFR 185's this winter. I know I have titanium retainers and decent springs (although I am getting some float above 6000 rpm, but my cam is damn big) and some nice rockers.

what can I reuse on the AFR's that a fully assembled set won't come with? how about pushrods?

also, how can i test lifters to make sure they are all good?

The pushrods used with the 'taller' twisted wedge heads will be longer and will not work with the AFR heads, without being way to long...

You could pull out the thermacter plugs, the AFR's only come with a pair I believe

Don't get me wrong, I love AFR heads. I own a set of AFR 165s. But, it seems to me like a major amount of work for very minimal gain going from Trick Flow Twisted Wedge's to AFR 185s. Seems like a waste of time, money, and effort to me.

you guys think I'll see a performance gain, even a small one? that's great, I wasn't expecting any gains at all.

the heads are coming out because of a valve guide issue. I have a tick that, while it doesn't affect performance at all (the car runs like a raped ape right now), it pisses me off to think of how much I have into the motor while having this problem.

If you guys think I am throwing money away, make out on it. Buy my heads

I will likely leave the heads fully assembled to make the sale easier. just checking to see if anything was worthwhile to remove.

And yes, they will be for sale fairly soon, depends on what and when I get offered for them. The motor is coming out in about 3 weeks, but if someone wanted them now, I can just pull the heads. i do not want this turning into a for sale thread, but if there is anyone interested, please pm me.

Seems kind of like a crazy reason to sell your current $1100 heads for around 800 bucks just to turn around a buy a set of 1400-1600 dollar heads + 150 bucks for push rods. I just dont see why you dont pull the heads and have the valve guides done for a few bucks. Check for proper valvetrain geometry with an adj PR and buy the proper size PRs?

I guess thats just me?!?!

i appreciate most of the feedback. it is neither an injector or a header and I have had the entire valvetrain gone over and readjusted by a very seasoned professional.

as far as a "few bucks" for the valve guides, I have been told it will cost $500-600 to correct this problem that was very common on the first generation twisted wedge heads, which these are.

Wow, who gives a quote that high for valve guides?

Even if it was that much, that's a lot better than 1400 for a set of AFR's and pushrods. You won't be able to sell those heads for 800 if there is a problem with them unless you screw someone over.

is everything that you do to your mustang based on what it costs? yes, I'm sure it always has a bearing, but I am also sure that you have not always selected the cheapest option available.

I will not "screw someone over". My heads will work perfect for someone looking for a great deal on heads for a track car or someone willing to put the work in that they need, and I am not that person. this decision is not based on cost for me; it is based on other underlying facts, some of which I have mentioned in this thread, and some I have not. The difference between AFR's and what I will sell the TW's for is not enough to change this.

no, it doesn't always have to be based on what it costs, just people are concerned about the pissing away of money. It isn't about selecting the cheapest option, because that would be to put a set of stock heads back on. There is a difference between selecting something cheap or buying something expensive because it is better, but we just feel like you are wasting money when you could use that money toward a supercharger or something else.

Secondly, I didn't say you were going to screw someone over and never implied it. I was just making the point that the heads are not worth a lot when they need work.

AFR heads are top-notch.

Trickflow heads (summit) had some guide problems in the past.

AFR 185's will be a great NEW head you can stick on your ride, that will compliment the blower quite nicely
