Can i put 5.0 shocks and rear springs on the 2.3?

I need to replace my rear suspension and i already have a set of shocks for a 5.0 but i need the rear springs and can get a good price on new stock 5.0 rear springs. Would have the 5.0 stuff on affect the weight dist. and handling since the 2.3 is lighter? If anyone has put them on a 2.3, what is the handling ride quality like?

Sure can, won't change anything....they might even be the same part.

It won't change much of anything...a 2.3 isn't any lighter on the rear than a 5.0. It's all over the front wheels.

I too believe they are the same spring rate, I put some Turbocoupe rear springs on mine minus a couple of coils. I can haul passengers now without a sagging problem and a fairly nice ride.

yes, on the back they'll work fine. I had stock SN95 shocks and Eibach sportlines for a SN95 on my stang they worked great. The front struts won't bolt up though, the mounting plates aren't wide enough.

thers no differents in the rear springs except maybe rating,but up front the struts[like nomuffler said are differnt]are more stiffer do to the shock rating of the v-8 verses i4.i did a 5 lug conversion pro stars with 15-8 in rear and 15-3.5 in front and even if i hit a small dip in the road my car hits hard and stiff.there seems not be enough weigh in the front to make the strut move enough to take the shock.also i still have the stock 4-cylinder springs.dunno going back to 4 lug.

as far as i know 5.o springs have a higher spring rate the 5.0 guys use the 4 cylinder springs for drag racing because its a lower rate giving better weight transfer

my guess would be the 5.0L springs have a higher rating because the amount of torque a 302 creates compared to a 2.3l is substantial. What I am saying is that the front end lifts more when launching with more torque, placing more weight/force on the rear wheels...wich would require a stiffer rear spring to plant the rear wheels properly.

The 84-93 GT springs are the same as the M-5300-B springs. When I bought my M-5300-B springs for my 86 Lx it even came with a sheet of paper that gave '85 Mustang GT part numbers for replacement springs.

My 86 LX stock had 365 lb. in. front springs and 200lb. in. rear springs.

The GT had 425-530lb. in. variable rate front springs and 200-300lb variable rate rear springs.

So yes 84-later GT rear springs should be better for the rear.

EDIT:

It seems the Tbird springs are almost the same rate and length as the SN95 springs. To put SN95 springs in a Fox Mustang I thought you had to cut them but for the Birds the SN95 springs seem to be a drop in replacement.

So yes they will probably fit but they may be too tall and too stiff since Birds weigh more in the rear.

if you put 5.0 suspension on a 2.3 you are gonna have a really stiff ride and you'll feel every bump in the road.

numbers dont mean anything, i have a 5.0 suspension in my 2.3 and i know what it feels like
