The stock 5.0 with over 150 on the clock is tired. It constantly overheats and runs like crap. The tranny has started acting up as well when the car gets hot and I have to shift often. I got under to see what was going on, to find the housing cracked just behind the shifter. I found a place that sells complete remanufactured stock 5.0's for 700 bucks with a 5 year 50k warranty. The engine swap I can do. I am pretty sure I can find the rear piece of the housing of the tranny and replace it, but could I rebuild the T5?
I have never done it befor though.
What am I getting myself into?
Would I be better off to just come up with the 600 bucks for a new one or 200 for the re-build parts?
I would like to stay under 1500 to do everything and plan to swap alot of the stuff off my motor to the new one. I am not looking for power, just something to run good and be my daily driver. I know that alot of times, when you start replacing things, it can get out of hand, but I am on a seriously limited budget. If I stay stock and cheap, is this attainable?

If it is just part of the t5 housing that is fouled up...

Just find a T5 from a 4cyl. and pull the housing from that.

Run some coolant flush through the engine and see how the engine temps do...

What T-stat are you using?

Good Luck,

Yeah. Your running conditions may not be cause by a tired engine. You could have other problems in your cooling system. Why does it "run like crap"? Describe the problem. It would suck if you put a new engine in it and had the same problems.
