i have been trying to think of different ways to increase power and not cost alot of money.i was thinking maybe i would take the stock cats off but i dont know if it will help or slow the car down.i have a bassani x pipe center and flows dumped right after the rearend.will the motor still have enough backpressure if i remove them and will it make it louder(i acually want it a little louder)

I dont have cats on my car it will get a little louder and give you a little more horsepower. You shouldnt have a problem with back pressure if you go without cats.

I went from no mufflers and a stock Hpipe with 4 cats to MAC mufflers and the stock H with gutted cats and I picked up power.

If you have emissions testing in your state or in a state next to you keep the cats. It may make a big difference if you move, or when it comes time to sell or trade the car. The only reason to get rid of them on a street driven car is that they are rusted out, rattling or clogged from an oil burning engine with no smog pump.

Free horsepower:
1.) Buy or borrow a timing light & set the timing at 14* with the SPOUT out. You'll probably have to buy 91-93 octane gas, but it does make a seat of the pants difference.

2.) Remove the air silencer horn from the stock airbox. If you remove the stock airbox from the fender mounting, you can remove the horn and pick up some free HP.

Low cost HP:

1.) Use full synthetic motor oil and change it regularly.

2.) Use a flat panel K&N style filter. Just don't over oil it.

On a budget? do the junkyard upgrade...

Gears - 87-88 T-Bird Turbo Coupe rear axle - disc brakes and 3.55 or 3.73 gears in one package for $125-$300. Add another $100-$200 or so to complete the brake upgrade.

94-95 Mustang GT MAF - $40-$100. It is 70 MM instead of the stock 55 MM on regular stangs built prior to 94. It uses a slip on duct on the side that goes to the throttle body and a 4 bolt flange on the other. You need a $25-$35 flange adapter from Pro-M to fit the stock slip on air ducting that goes to the air box. Wiring plugs right in with no changes. *1

95-97 Ford Explorer intake manifold & throttle body $150-$300. The intake manifold flows 220 CFM +, much better than stock. Throttle body is 65 MM, bigger than the 60 MM on stock stangs. I got a 96 with EGR passages that match the stock setup, so my smog gear works just like factory. You’ll need a 65 MM EGR spacer & new gaskets for $65-$90 so you have a place to mount the EGR & throttle linkage.

3G alternator from 94-95 Mustangs or other Ford. $20-$120. A must have to make the electrical system work like it should. You’ll need a 4 gauge power wire and a 125-135 amp fuse to go with it about $15- $30.

Lincoln MK VIII electric fan -$40-$160. Free up some HP by not having to drive the stock fan. The 3G alternator upgrade is a must have prerequisite before you do the MK VIII fan. You won’t have enough electrical power if you don’t do the 3G upgrade.

*1.) I got a metal flange adapter from Powered by Ford for $35 and tax. That was over a year ago. Summit Racing may also have one too.

It is a good idea to use the sig under the user control panel (User CP) option. It allows you to post your car year & mods, which help greatly when troubleshooting things. No, it is not there for us to snoop and see any "Secrets" you have hidden away under the hood.

I have Bassani full exhaust, 1 7/8" ceramic long tube headers; makes the rumble with an unbelievable sound...also gave me about 35-40 horsepower and 65 lbs of torque...all non-tuned.

Following the headers i have the Bassani X-Pipe w/ cats and a spare without cats. THe cats silenced the sound down a whole lot, but made it still sound really good. And 2 mufflers out back with 3.5 inch tips...I have 3" full exhaust. I keep the X-pipe with cats for the only reason to when i have to go to emission testing - ILLINOIS.

The x-pipe w/o cats will make your car sound a little louder.....but makes mine sound a whole lot lounder because i have the biggest headers on a fox... imean come on, my headers ports that go into the block are larger in diameter than a honda civic stock exhaust tip hahaha

Also, backpressure will not be a problem, as long as your still going to have it go all the way to the back...and are you going to have mufflers or no?
