Can I replace the radiator fan without pulling the radiator?

My chic's 1998 GT's fan starting smoking. The fan motor burnt itself to a crisp marshmallow. I just picked up a fan assemble from ford for $260. The fan motor, blade and shroud is one part. It bolts on with 2 bolt and has one wire plug going to it. It doesn't look like I'll need to pull the radiator but I would just like to verify the install/Remove

thanks,
Steve

You don't have to pull the radiator, but you might want to pull it up on ramps or jackstands so you can you can pull it through the bottom. That's the way I did it.

Thanks!

That's what I was thinking to since the hoses are in the way up top.

It should be a simple little project. 130k miles and this is the first repair. I'm not complaining. This motor has been solid!

Thanks again,
Steve

Got the OEM from my local dealer for $260 plus tax. I hear it's one of the best one you can get plus the old one worked perfect for all this time. I thought about upgrading but this is my chics stang. She sure doesnt need anything more then OEM

I removed the fan many times in my 96 GT. You don't have to put on stands or ramps.

Just unbolt it, unplug the wiring, move the radiator degauss bottle over to the right and pull it staright out.
Might have to angle it a bit, but it comes out easy.

I'll give it a whirl. It does look simple.

This motor has never over heated or had any problems. I just hope this a sign when every little thing starts dropping.. I'm grateful it's just the fan motor and not something internal to the block. It doesn't even smoke at start leak oil or miss fire. I must say ford did a great job on these 4.6 motors. You wouldn't think an American V8 can hang with the Honda's and Toyota's in it's golden years..LOL Knock on someones wood head..

thanks

Update

You are 100% right. I made life even easier by removing the intake canaster the holds the filter. That way I could get the the 8mm nut. 2 nuts and 1 electric plug. 3 nuts for the radiator bottle. Total time, 30 mintues.

Thanks everyone!
