Can I use a 79 2.3 assembly to replace a tired 88 EFI?

Just wondering, my 88 LX's 2.3 has dropped a cylinder (suspect a broken or seized set of rings), a friend of mine has a 79 2.3 with carb from a Mustang. Is it possible to swap my head, cam intakes etc onto this rotating assembly?- and have it work in my 88 until I find a better motor or rebuild the one I have?

So I could bolt everything right up?

yes! but why not swap the whole long block and just swap manifolds?
So my manifolds etc would bolt right up to the head- they didn't change port sizes or anything like that? Fuel pump block off plate? Both cars are automatics so trannys etc will line up ok? Haven't worked much with these motors in years.
