can I use a fox body rear in my 96 gt

can I use a fox body rear in my 96 gt ? are the housing dimensions the same?

suspension pick-up points are identical. the housing itself is narrower and hte axle shafts are shorter. using a fox body rear end in a SN95 or New edge lets you run wider tyres generally.

I guess im just trying to figure out how much trouble it would be.
there seems to be tons of fox body rears available in my location

You should be able to stick the SN-95 axles in the Fox housing, however Foxes don't have the provisions for ABS, if I'm not mistaken.

If you put your axles in a fox body rear end, you would be gaining nothing. Your wheels will still be in the same spot they are now. You would actually be putting more stress on the snout of your axles because the hub will stick out farther from the axle tube than it does with a 94-98 housing. I'm really not even sure if it would work, because your caliper is going to bolt on to your backing plate, and the rotor will be pushed out about .5" from where it needs to be because the axles in a sn95 are longer than a fox body.

Are you positive,because I was under the impression that the axle housing dimensions were identical from 1987 to 1998 but the sn 95 axler are just longer to accommodate the abs ring

I am 100% positive. I will look and find the measurements from flange to flange. I can't remember where I wrote them down at. But from hub to hub, they are 87-93-57", 94-98-58.5", 99-04-59 7/8th. I will look and see if I can find the flange to flange

Well its pretty much a moot point now as I ended up getting one out of a 94 gt that is stock with 327s . $150.00 and was from a car with about 50 k on clock,so I'm pretty happy.thanks for the replys

The axles housing is the same from 86-98. Put yur brakes in an 86-93 drum brake axle and you have basically a 94-98 axles.

Only difference is the brake line routing...but that can be changed

Yeah the brake line routing was also different on the 94 as well.

My 96 has the routing under the body,but the routing on the 94 is on the axle its self.

I just kept the lines under the body,and removed the lines from on top of the new rear.didnt have to bleed the brakes doing it that way, since nothing was ever opened.
