can my explorer tb be made to fix fox style>

I made an Explorer TB work on mine...Thats running the Ex upper though...are you gonna use that intake set-up???

I'm working on using an explorer right now. I should have it finished by this weekend.

Ya, with some more parts you can go fox style...that elbow adapter they use on the Ex is kinda funky...even the SN elbow looks like ass to me, thats why i swapped over...
You need to get a fox throttle cable and the bracket that it attached to. you'll need a EGR delete spacer too...it allows you to bolt the throttle bracket...see the pic...



This is a EGR delete spacer...its like 27.00 shipped from UPR...4 studs in the upper, slide the spacer on , bolt the throttle cable bracket to it, slide the TB on...


Using a Ex 65TB will require some fab work to...see how the cable lands?? see how the swivel ball it connects to is on the other side?? a FOX TB will work as is..For whatever reason, Ford repositioned the ball on the other side for the Ex TB...I opted to just move the ball...you can pull the guts out of a Fox and swap it into the Ex...way to much work to me..it was easier to just cut/reweld the ball..



this is how the Ex swivel ball needs to be modified...it has to be cut and rewelded to the other side for it to work...it simply cut it off, mounted it to the other side, tack welded it...connect the throttle, run it thru its travel..all should be cool , adjust if needed...then weld it for good.
takes a little fab work...but it ran mint on mine....

My big concers in the air flow path of the iac. if you look at a 94-95 the part the air flows for the iac ir about 6-8" and has a 90* turn in it. Now if you look at the explorer the air only has to travel about 1-2". I think that is why there are so many problems with the hainging idle with the 94-95's and when you swap over you cure the problem with the idle.

What year is your Explorer engine? The 96 Explorer TB I have was able to use the stock style TPS while the 97 one had to use the Explorer style TPS. I welded up the 96 like Rio, but used epoxy and tech screw to do the 97. There is a how-to of what I did to the 97 on

i had an 96 Ex set-up....i reamed the TPS holes prior to installing it, just for adj sake....everything was on the money...Sweet....Then I purchased a TB of a 93 Cobra....It came with no TPS/IAC...no problem, figured I'd just swap the Ex to the Fox unit...here's what I ran into...

Setting the TPS, I could not get better than .94..WOT was 4.96, just like the Ex was...remember, i reamed the holes Ex install...Appears I have not enuf adjustment..hmmmm?
The idle was hanging bigtime this way...I disconnect the IAC...all is fine...hanging idle gone...Only downside is she's a tad tough to idle when dead cold...gotta let it warm a tad before it will hold the idle....otherwise it runs fine...appears to be no issue with the IAC disconnected...you'd never no it was unhooked..

My thinking is THERES a dif between the 2 TPS's, EX to Fox??? Im thinking of buying an Accufab from there web...they have no sensors on their units..I notice on the bottom of the same page that they do sell OEM TPS's for like under 60.00....I'm wondering if the hanging idle is more the TPS then the IAC valve??? Accufab states "dont try to set and idle issue by adjusting anYthing but the TPS"

What are your thoughts????

I have the 97 unit that I epoxied/tech screwed (and is the one in the tech article) which I tried unsuccesfully to get a 5.0 TPS to work on, so I put the Explorer on there and it has worked like a charm since the git go. After all the changes I made last winter it started and ran like I never did a thing (other than noisy lifters which a new set cured - you remember that). I had to rig up individual small spade connectors for the TPS connection (cause I'm too lazy to go to the JY for an Explorer connector). I have the IAC hooked up too, no problems of any sort. Does Accufab's position apply only to their stuff? Can't imagine they'd say to ignore the IAC on a stock setup. If it's working correctly, I don't know how you could ignore it and get the engine to idle/off-idle smoothly. In your case, it sounds like the IAC was adding too much air as it's removal settled things down for you. Could the throttle blade be opened a little farther than the "stock" or "required" location, letting in more air?

I checked out the throttle blade position..all looked cool...The IAC was gummed up and I cleaned it with WD40...the plunger was working slick....Theres gotta be something different between the two. ...I was thinking of stopping at the Ford dealer and seeing if the parts guy could help me out with numbers of difs between the two...i cut the plug off and Ex and soldered that in place on mine, I think I sold the Ex TB as I was gonna swap it back on to see if the problem disappeared...which I feel it would...It was perfect before...Oh well....play you pay....

A nice polished Accufab is sounding better all the time....You think 70mm would be workable??? Im still running 19s at the moment....I was gonna re-dyno and then change some stuff and hit it again before Winter.

I think your right in Accufabs info applying to there stuff.
