Don't bother with the car fax.... My car was wrecked before i got it (I saw the damage before they repaired and re-painted it) and the carfax was clean. My truck was almsot totaled, I had a buddy carfax it two years later and it was still showing a clean title and no accidents... The truck had a $9000 insurance job done to it including putting the frame on a frame machine to straighten it...
Use your detective skills and see if everything looks OK for what the car should be.
