Can you always tell when a clutch is slipping?

I was just wondering if maybe my clutch is slipping a little and that is the reason my car is slow. It seems like I go and it revs up consistantly but doesn't really go. It grabs, but not REALLY hard and it is the stock one so I don't know. I'll be more detailed, I slam the pedal to the floor in first and it will get up and go, but it use to be quick, now it just kinda lopes along, if the clutch was slipping I figured it won't transmit all my power to the rear.... its as if my timing was retarded a bit. Sorry if you guys don't understand what I am trying to say.

If your cruising in a higher gear such as 4th or 5th and you punch it, does the rpm rise consistantly with the MPH, or does it rise fast and the speedo catch up? If so I would say it's a slipping clutch.

no, it grabs in all gears, but it just doesn't grab hard. and also the rpms will go up and the car won't accelerate that fast, but it does go.

Doesn't sound like your problem. When a clutch gets bad enough, you can mat the gas in 5th or even 4th from a roll, and the RPM will shoot up pretty quickly without the car going any faster.

Did you have any problems with the TFS 1 cam and clearance, I want to run it with my 1.6's and Cobra GT40 Heads... will I need to switch out springs or anything?

No inteference that I know of (PO installed cam). Upgraded springs are a must to avoid spring binding with E7's....not sure about the GT40's.

Yep, I'm with Kevin (89sleeper)...on my last two "slipping" clutches I didn't realize it...and the 4th/5th gear testing didn't work...even though it was slipping.

True, sometimes it is hard to tell. My stock clutch grabbed pretty decent, but nothing like my new one. (Spec III). When powshifting it seemed to grab but you could see the rpm drop. After the new clutch the RPM change was instant or it just broke the tires loose.

well somthing you could try would be, be in third and get to where you RPM band is really strong, say 4500, then hit the brakes and the gas real hard and see if the rpms go down when you start braking hard or are consistent with MPH being your brakes might not hold the power.

BG, you are a wild man! I would not have the guts to do this.

Crunch, if your flywheel is glazed badly, you can let the clutch out real quick from a stop and it wont even try to stall. that can be a tell.

any smoke out of it while driving or getting on it?
