Not sure if this goes in tech or talk..it is tech but just really asking a question. Anyway, do any of you fine Mustang enthusiasts know of a company that sells "built" rearends? By the time I buy the gears, Auburn Pro dif, 31-spline axles, heavy duty dif. cover and a rebuild kit PLUS pay somone to do the work for me I am looking at a good chunk of change. I do not know how to do all this work by myself. If I could just purchase a complete rearend already built though I would have no problem swapping them out on my own. I have replaced all the rear suspension stuff (UCA's/LCA's/springs/shocks/driveshaft/and added adj. rear swaybar) so I know what all it takes to drop a rearend. I just have no clue about the internals of it. I have a manual and magazine articles on it but it still looks like Chinese to me. Plus it is a daily driver...if I screw up I am screwed. I never see an ad in all the magazines offering complete rearends built for sale...just all the individual components. Anyone have a clue? Thanks A LOT.....Ken

Thanks

I will try DTS. I thought I looked there a while back but could only find stuff related to the older fox style 9" rearends. I will look again and harder this time. I have a short attention span, if I don't find something quick I will wander on to something else. I figured a good 1500 dollars or so. It would cost over a grand for all the internals with shipping alone plus the housing plus labor going the other route soooo.... Anyone else have a genius ideas or suggestions feel free to let me know. Thanks again.

as long as you find a good shop there is not advantage to buying a completer unit. shipping will be spendy.

axels $250
diff $435
cover $140
gears $170
instal kit $100
labor ~250-400 shops vary.
so you are looking at a $1350-$1500

I think you are going to have a hard time getting a complete diff delivered for that. unles you live close enough to one of them to pick it up.

Well, here's the verdict...

I emailed DTS Friday and got a response today. $2090.00 PLUS shipping for a completely assembled rearend (with all the goodies). The said to call them for details or to discuss it with them further. I am not saying they are way to high but it is way more than I hoped. I was hoping for around 1500 but oh well off to plan B. CRAP I don't have a plan B. I am screwed.

Anyone want to help me rebuild a rearend? I'll pay and bring the beer. I don't know of any shops around my area that would do the work other than a dealer and I hear they will rape you plus who knows what kind of job I would really get from them. I would like to be a part of the job anyway and learn a little bit also sooooo any takers? I am good with the tools and stuff-just have no experience with the internals of an 8.8 rearend plus don't have any of the special tools required for the job.....Let me know if anyone would like to help or has any ideas......Thanks alot.....Ken
