Can you give me some tips about shifting the mustang?

In 2 hours I'm going to go pick up my 2012 mustang gt coupe stick shift. I'm excited and can't wait. This is my first stick shift car ever. I could've got the automatic but chose manual. Can I please get some tips and suggestions about shifting the mustang GT. From 1st to 2nd can I just pull straight down? or do I have to go from 1st to N and then to 2nd? I hope I don't stall out pulling out the lot, it'll be embarassing.

You serious? Excuse me, I`m in Europe and find this a little amusing. BUT. You have to learn sometime so good move buddy.

Anyways, If you`re not used to a manual but have driven one before then just take your time. Let the clutch out steady and feel the bite, you`ll hardly need to give it any throttle.

Last thing you want to do is kangaroo away. If you want keep in 2 nd even till your out of sight then you can blunder all you like.
It`ll come in no time. Its simple enough affair. I reverse park artic trucks onboard ships for a living with `umpteen` gears and manual splitter boxes, everyone is different and first time the clutch bite or box is new or the gate can be awkward and it can sometimes be tricky. Its only becuase you`re not used to it. Everyone can make a mistake.

Oh, and its 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. You`ll automatically go through neutral to get to the next gear (in neutral the stick sits in the middle and can move around freely). You`ll pass this when you shift from 1st to 2nd. And again from 2nd to 3 rd etc.

The car won`t stall as long as the clutch is depressed. Ok?

Don't try to race anyone until you are comfortable with driving a manual. There will be rice car and muscle car at every stop light. CONTROL YOURSELF...once you are good, then let them have it.....in a safe way of course

the new Mustangs are surprisingly easy to drive, but you face a serious up hill challenge. do you have anyone to go with you to pick the car up and drive it to a large parking lot? last thing you want is to have to worry about learning to drive a manual in a brand new car right off the dealer lot, Ive been driving manuals for years and years and I was nervous when I picked up my car last Wednesday.

Find someone who knows how to drive a stick and get them to teach you. Seriously? How are you gonna drive it home? My dad taught me when I was 18 and it took several lessons before I got it down comfortably. I hope you got someone to drive it back for you.

man my 2012 was my first stick car also. hadn't driven a stick in over 10 years. i watched youtube videos to learn and then when i wasn't sure after i left the dealership and rode around practicing i went back and made the sales man help me get reaquainted. its the least he could do since i had just spent 30,000 with him lol. but once u learn how to get past first youll be good to go

the cool thing about torque is you can just put it in first and left off the clutch in the reverse way you'd be pressing the gas in an auto. then when the clutch takes over completely use the gas.

ever drive a viper? you can do that in like second and third lol

He ended up stalling the car 12 times before leaving the dealer lot. He lemon lawed the car before leaving the lot because it must have been related to the MT82 issues and is now driving a Civic with an AT.

I'll post pictures this afternoon when I get home, as for the shifting, it's good. I stalled the car maybe 5 times so far after driving it for 2 days. I caught on fast. I love the car by the way, it looks great and the interior is awesome especially coming from a civic. I have 2 questions. There is like a small creak noise when I press down the clutch, it's not a loud noise but just a quiet one, is this normal? also, Which gear should I pull in and what rpm do i take it to, to get that back sinking into seat feeling? thanks for all the replies thanks for the help

Once you learn to shift more effieciently your car will feel much faster.
Its a skill that takes some finese and practice. Before I bought my 06
I tried a couple of manual GT's compared to the 5 speed automatics and
the automatics feel faster to me. And Ive had plenty of stick shift experience.
When I drove an 07 manual I was thinking , damn this feels slower than the

I am glad to see everything worked out because I have the same problem. My solution is to find a driving school that still offers manual lessons.

1. (clutch=engage with foot)
2. (shift: gear=1)
3. (throttle: rpm=1500)
4. (clutch=gradual release to let it catch and take over)
